Musicians from the University of Notre Dame marching band will be visiting Notre Dame Prep in Pontiac beginning tomorrow October 17 on its annual trip to a Catholic high school in Michigan.
According to a spokesperson for the university band, the trips are designed to help the band bond through service and to create fellowship with communities other than their own in South Bend, Indiana.
According to Notre Dame Prep band director Joe Martin, the university band members will have dinner in the cafeteria and then will sleep in the main gym tomorrow night. “The next morning, there will be a meet and greet in the band room with the NDP band students,” he said.
“In past service trips, we have stayed at local Catholic high schools, and it often produces overwhelmingly positive results,” the UND band spokeman said. “We usually talk to the high school band about what it is like to be in a college band and the drum line sometimes performs with the students there.”
He said the university band usually leaves to go back to South Bend before school starts the next morning.
“Our band students will really enjoy the opportunity to meet and interact with the UND band members,” said Fr. Joe Hindelang, s.m., Notre Dame Prep’s principal.
