Big wins for Notre Dame robotics

Notre Dame VEX IQ robotics middle school and lower school teams qualify for state championship due to performance at Dec. 7 event at Avondale High School.

At Saturday's RoboJackets VEX IQ ES/MS Squared Away Tournament held at Avondale High School, Notre Dame's fourth/fifth-grade Bumble Bees team finished first and earned a spot in an upcoming state competition.

According to Louise Palardy, NDPMA's STEM specialist and manager of the robotics center, fourth-grader Christopher Artinian and fifth-graders Brady Rossmiller and Brendan Kator, Team #3333R, and their robot performed admirably.

"Due to Saturday's big win, they qualified for the Michigan VEX IQ ES State Championship, which will be held February 29 in Traverse City at the Grand Traverse Resort," she said.

Palardy also noted that Notre Dame's sixth-grade VEX IQ team, Mia Carles, Julia Pakkala, Lucas DiGrande and Lucas Marchese, Team #3333E, won the Excellence Award at Saturday's completion and as a result also became eligible for the state championship in February.

Third-graders David Rodrigues and Noah Kator also competed Saturday in Auburn Hills.

The next regular-season event for Notre Dame's VEX IQ teams is Dec. 14 at Zemmer Middle School in Lapeer. Notre Dame is hosting a VEX league finals event for seventh through 12th grades this Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the robotics center.
