Notre Dame’s board elects new chair

Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy announces today that its Board of Trustees have elected longtime school supporter and alum parent Stephen V. Pangori as chair, effective July 1, 2018. He will replace Daron Gifford, who is finishing up his seven-year term as chair and will now serve as chair emeritus for one year.

Pangori has been member of Notre Dame's board since October of 2014 and currently serves as chair of the board's building committee.

Andy Guest, who is NDPMA's head of school, is delighted that Pangori accepted this new role.

"Steve has been a wonderful advocate for the school for many years," Guest said. "He comes with a wealth of management experience, but more importantly, he is a true man of faith and recognizes how essential it is that such a high-achieving Catholic school will remain available for children in southeast Michigan well into the future."

Gifford's tenure as board chair has included arguably the most significant achievements in school history.

NDPMA chair emeritus Daron Gifford (as of July 1, 2018)

During the past seven years, the school has acquired new property; relocated the lower division; incorporated the school as its own Michigan-based nonprofit; private educational corporation; and acquired existing property and grounds from the Archdiocese of Detroit. A few years ago, the school worked with the city and county to fix the intersection of Walton and Giddings; replaced the turf on the football field; expanded the lower division; completed a three-year renovation of the main media center; launched a major capital campaign; replaced the baseball and softball diamonds and raised nearly $6.0 million toward the new science, arts and technology wing.

"The board of trustees under Daron's leadership should be extremely proud of its accomplishments," Guest added. "Truly a Marist, Daron's mission-driven guidance and leadership was also always accompanied by selflessness, kindness and grace."

Pangori currently is president, CEO, and member of the Board of Directors of Anderson, Eckstein & Westrick (AEW) a leading design firm based in Shelby Township, Mich., which provides civil engineering, architecture, consulting and surveying services to municipal, institutional and private clients.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He also is a board member of ACE Mentor–Michigan, the Michigan affiliate of ACE Mentor Program of America, Inc., which helps mentor high school students and inspires them to pursue careers in design and construction.

A resident of Clarkston, Pangori and his wife, Laura, and children Maria '13 (NDP), Andrea ’15 (NDP), Dana ’17 (NDP) and Anthony '18 (NDP) are members of St. Daniel Catholic Church, also in Clarkston.
