Notre Dame seniors Carmen Aranda and Kyle Conroy were awarded college scholarships sponsored by the Ric Gonzalez Memorial Foundation. It is the tenth consecutive year that Notre Dame students have earned the annual scholarship.
The Ric Gonzalez Foundation, which since 2004 has been providing college scholarships, including to many NDP alums, was formed after the passing of Ric Gonzalez, co-founder of automotive- and aerospace-supplier Gonzalez Design Group, based in Madison Heights. The foundation has granted more than 100 scholarships to date totaling more than $345,000.
Last year, then-seniors Rodolfo Aguilar-Fernandez and Daniella Cabral were awarded the 2016 Ric Gonzalez Memorial Foundation scholarship, the ninth consecutive year at least one NDP student had earned the scholarship.
A celebration and awards ceremony for Aranda and Conroy has been planned for November 11, 2017, at Palazzo Di Bocce in Lake Orion.
Since the scholarship was established, the RGMF has been providing scholarships to deserving Hispanic youth in southeast Michigan planning to attend a college or university of their choice. Applicants are evaluated on the following criteria: academic record, strength of application essays, community service and personal qualities.
