Easterwood Wing naming ceremony today celebrated science, art, technology and empowering young women for a future in STEM.

The event began with remarks by Notre Dame Head of School Andy Guest, who discussed the new facility as well as the now-concluded $7-million March on to Victory capital campaign, which led to the construction of the building.
Guest thanked Tim Easterwood, who contributed $1 million to the campaign, and he thanked the many other campaign donors, including NDPMA faculty and staff, whose gifts to the campaign were recognized with the naming of both Prayer Gardens located in the Mary Courtyard outside of the new wing.
The Easterwood Wing, which totals more than 20,000 square feet, was completed in August 2018. It includes a one-story science, technology and arts wing that houses science laboratory facilities, a number of collaborative learning classrooms, a robotics center and two fine-arts studios.
After his opening remarks today during the naming event, Guest introduced ND Prep students Mariana Ortiz Luna, a senior, and Ava Vandenberghe, a sophomore, who talked about STEM and what the new facility means to them as current students. They also said it will have a positive affect on many future Notre Dame students.
Easterwood, who was on hand today at the event, then spoke about what led to his decision to make his gift to the campaign. With a daughter, Ella, currently attending Notre Dame as a sophomore, he had said he was particularly excited about being able to help empower her and future generations of young women to consider college studies and careers in the STEM fields.
