8th-grader takes middle-division spelling crown for third year in a row.
Rahul Reddy, an 8th grader in Notre Dame's middle school, earned the top prize in the school's 2018 spelling bee after correctly spelling "parenthetical" for his winning round. He now will compete in the 23rd Annual Oakland Schools Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held March 18 at the Oakland Schools headquarters in Waterford.
Last year at the Oakland Schools regional bee, Reddy finished in 6th place.
It's the third year in a row as middle-division champ for Reddy. Runners-up at this year's bee were 7th-grader Ashley Quinn and 6th-grader George Moussa.
The following students were the classroom winners and competed in the middle school spelling bee finals: Reddy, Angela Carraher and Amanda Kostiz represented the 8th grade; Quinn, Claire Ruschak and Julia Housey represented the 7th grade; and Moussa, Meghan Chaiyasate and Morgan Bissett represented the 6th grade.
Reddy's win last year came after a wild two days of competition, which ended with his 2017 winning word, "benzene."
Congratulations, Rahul!
