Two From Notre Dame Published in National Magazine

A recent graduate of Notre Dame Prep and a current senior recently had their Spanish poems published in ¡Albricias!, the student magazine of the National Spanish Honor Society. Two-thousand-thirteen graduate Theresa Schmid's poem, "Memorias de la Isla Negra," was published in the summer edition of ¡Albricias!, while senior Danielle Mullis' poem, also titled "Memorias de la Isla Negra," was published in the fall edition.

After studying the poetry of Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda, and watching the movie "Il Postino," loosely based on Neruda's life in exile on an Italian island, the two were encouraged to reflect on Neruda's work by writing poems of their own.

Schmid, who along with her Notre Dame diploma received an International Baccalaureate Diploma, is now pursuing global liberal studies with a minor in production at New York University in London and hopes to pursue a career in media. Her poem can be found in the ¡Albricias! summer edition on page 32.

NDP senior Mullis is currently an International Baccalaureate candidate and enjoys writing poetry, both in English and Spanish, playing the oboe and riding her bike competitively. After graduating, Danielle hopes to study medicine. Mullis’ poem will be available soon at the ¡Albricias! website.
