Michigan's 2013 bike-racing season comes to an end this Saturday with one of the biggest events in the country. The 24th annual Iceman Cometh Challenge mountain bike race is a point-to-point race from Kalkaska to Traverse City, 29 miles in total. Notre Dame Prep's Justin Kreger, a freshman, Luke Mullis, a sophomore, and senior Danielle Mullis will be among the racers tomorrow.
Over 4,000 racers will take part in the race.
Although he is the youngest of the Notre Damers, Kreger is by far the most experienced mountain bike rider. He finished in fourth place in the recent Michigan State Scholastic Championship mountain bike race at Lake Orion High school. Last year, he placed 27th in the Iceman. The highlight of Luke Mullis' season was winning a silver medal at the National Track Championships in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania. Last year, he finished 43rd in the Iceman even though he had to run the last six miles on foot after breaking his bike. Kreger and Luke Mullis also played together on NDP's JV soccer team this past season.
Danielle Mullis earned a National Championship at Track Nationals this year and last year placed fifth in the Iceman.
