After winning the regional competition at Detroit Catholic Central High School in February, Notre Dame freshmen Richie Frost, Chase Glasser and Anthony VanDieren qualified for and competed in the junior varsity division of the History Bowl national finals April 24-25 in Washington D.C. Facing very tough competition, their team placed in the top quarter of 84 teams competing in the preliminary rounds. The team ended with a 6-4 record, which included two narrow losses and two games against the teams that placed first and second in the championship.
Glasser and VanDieren also qualified for the History Bee national competition, where they placed among the top half of the 183 students competing. They were among 72 students from around the country who participated in the Geography Olympiad national competition held the same weekend (April 24-25). The National History Bee and Bowl are academic competitions that test knowledge of a wide range of historical topics. The top finishers from the 37 regional finals advance to the national finals and compete for the title of national champion.
