In a new video published yesterday by the International Baccalaureate organization, Brian Spittle, who is assistant vice president of DePaul University and oversees the school's Center for Access and Attainment, discusses the importance of the IB Diploma Program's Theory of Knowledge class to college admissions.
He says that TOK, which is the keystone class of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, is exactly the type of course that college admissions people are looking for in students.
“It shows how you explain your thinking," he says in the short video. “And that it wasn’t just rote learning, it isn’t just the kind of learning you get out of a textbook, it was actually asking me to think about what I was learning and explain it to others. That’s something that colleges are looking for — to see that you’ve been challenged, to see if you’ve been taking the most difficult course.”
