The plot thickens for NDP thespians

Notre Dame's theatre department presents 'The Plot, Like Gravy, Thickens.'

NDPMA's upper school opens this Thursday, April 4, with its latest production, "The Plot, Like Gravy, Thickens" by Billy St. John. It will be presented all weekend long by Notre Dame's theatre department.

"Come and join in with this interactive murder mystery, where you become the detective," said Meredith Scott, NDPMA's theatre director. "It's got great storm effects, spiffy costumes and lots of fun and mystery, which is common with work by St. John, the author of Abduction, The Reunion and others."

Scott also rhetorically asks if any potential audience member has ever wanted to commit a capital crime?

"The playwright in this production, played by senior Grace Mersino, will demonstrate just how to do someone in — in your imagination, of course!" she said. "This laugh-out-loud show has really witty dialogue and a great plot."

The play opens with the introduction to the audience of tyrannical millionaire Edward Worthington's relatives, business associates and household staff, most of whom have reason to wish the man dead.

Gathered on a stormy evening at Worthington Manor to celebrate Edward's 50th birthday are his attractive wife, her playboy brother, Edward's befuddled older sister, his ex-wife and his daughter, a college student. Also present are his shady lawyer and his uptight business manager with his giddy wife and a rather saucy southern secretary as well as the butler, the housekeeper, the maid and the cook.

"Each has a motive that is barely established when the lights go out," Scott adds. "Seconds later, the lights come back on to reveal the knife for the birthday cake protruding from Edward's back. In Act II, the police detective allows the audience to question or accuse suspects before the perp's identity is revealed in a surprising climax.

"The audience will have a blast," said Scott.

This show features Notre Dame seniors Siena Moccia, Matthew Wood, Rowland Scheessele, Luigi Chirco, Abigail Kot, Grace Mersino, Mikaela Crute and Jacob Galloway.

It takes place Thursday through Saturday, April 4-6, 7 p.m., in the Notre Dame cafetorium, 1300 Giddings Rd., in Pontiac. All tickets available at the door. $8 for students/seniors and $10 for adults.
