Sci-fi, magic spells and Hogwarts

Notre Dame middle schoolers undo a Hogwarts spell and check out books needed for upcoming unit on sci-fi and fantasy.

This week, the NDPMA media center was transformed into the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Library, thanks to the school's amazing librarians, Megan Rochon and Steve Palizzi.

Students from Notre Dame's middle school ran a race against time to undo a spell cast on the science fiction and fantasy books written by Hogwarts Professor Gilderoy Lockhart, O.M.

Lockhart's spell would have made him the author and keeper of more than 70 books in the library.

But the middle schoolers searched the library for clues to unlock the box containing magic wands that would effectively cast a spell on a giant snake in the Herbology Greenhouse to release the final clue and give the students the spell needed to undo Professor Lockhart's spell.

Luckily, every class was able to solve all the puzzles and stop the spell from taking hold of the books. Good thing, because later this week the students will be checking out those books they saved as they begin a unit focused on sci-fi and fantasy books.

Perfect timing!
