Members of Notre Dame’s teaching staff and administration spent last weekend running 196 miles from Madison, Wis., to Chicago. Ill.
According to one of Notre Dame’s team members, Kathleen Offer, the “ND12” raised money for the Emily Ann Griffin Foundation, a Livonia-based charity that helps children with special needs.
Notre Dame middle-school language and technology teacher Ginny Pauwels ran the first leg of the relay race out of Chicago at 6 a.m., on Friday, June 12, and the last leg was completed 32 hours and 42 minutes later in Madison on Saturday, June 13, at approximately 2:50 p.m.
Offer said each runner on the 12-person team ran three legs in the non-stop, overnight relay.
“More than 500 teams finished the race,” she said. “The first-place team finished with a time of 18:47, while the last-place team finished with a time of 38:09.”
Besides Pauwels, other ND12 team members included 4th-grade teacher Molly (Coldren) Campbell, NDP JV baseball coach Dan Campbell, middle-school humanities teacher Felicia Guest, middle-school vice principal Brandon Jezdimir, middle-school religion teacher Mark McGreevy, admissions assistant Michael Morrison and admissions director Kathleen Offer along with Sharon Clark, Nate Messer, Katie Palus and McGreevy’s wife, Carol.
Offer said helping the Notre Dame runners along the way was Wally Edgar Chevrolet, which donated the team’s transportation vehicles, and EA Graphics, which donated the screen printing of the team’s race t-shirts.
She said that more than $4,000 was raised for the Griffin foundation during the weekend, which also included a silent auction and donations via the socialply.com website.
