‘Prestigious’ proficiency

Notre Dame Prep students take 10 medals in national language examination.

Congratulations to the Notre Dame Preparatory School students who recently attained national recognition for excellent performances on the 2019 National Spanish Examinations. 

A gold medal was awarded to Lars Boehme (10), silver medals went to Evaristo Garcia-Reyna (12), Maria VanDieren (12), Allison Healy (11), Guadalupe Gaytan (10), and Elena Schwegman (10); and bronze medals were earned by Amelia Cumming (10), Evan Wells (11), Miguel Martinez-Garcia (10), and Elizabeth Scheer (10).

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, national director of the exams. "The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12 and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese."

In addition, 25 honorable mentions were earned by Alyssa Borellis, Christopher Galle, Nicholas Long, Megan Tompkins, Abigail Wozniak, Isabella Bankstahl, Stephanie Maniaci, Anna Nachazel, Megan Obear, Marisa Ricci, Denise Escobedo, Lesie Flores, Nathan Vogel, Allison Dawiedcyzk, Sofia Carlson, Brooke Cousins, Justina Gaynor, Angelica Noelle Fandino, Griffin Gushman, Charlotte Milback, Rachel Rook, Elizabeth Brouns, Kevin Orloski, Marisol Rodriguez and Ana Laura Sanchez Montalvo. 

About the National Spanish Examinations
The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. They are the most widely used tests of Spanish in the United States. In the spring of 2017, a total of 162,321 students participated in the online version of the exam.
