On Friday, more than 169,000 students around the world celebrated International Baccalaureate results.
Thirty-nine students from Notre Dame's International Baccalaureate Class 0f 2019 found out Friday that they had successfully earned the IB diploma for the past school year. As reported by school officials, the more than three-out-of-four diploma percentage represents a higher success rate than NDP's 2018 IB class, which topped the previous year's worldwide average.
According to Kim Anderson, who is the IB Diploma program coordinator at NDPMA and chair of the modern language department, Notre Dame Prep also had nine students earn perfect scores in the following IB courses: Spanish (2), History (1), Math Studies (5) and English: Language and Literature (1).
"Earning a perfect 7 is a big deal," she said. "Earning nine 7s in one class is a huge deal. It's like a unicorn. It doesn't happen that often anywhere. We also had everyone in the class pass the Theory of Knowledge course and five in the class each earned an A in Extended Essay, both very notable achievements."
On Friday, July 5, nearly 170,000 students around the world received their IB Diploma Program and Career-related Program results, said a press release from the IB organization. "Those students joined a community of more than 1.85 million graduates, in 153 countries, who have all demonstrated the knowledge, skills and determination to address our greatest challenges," the release added.
“I extend heartfelt congratulations to students worldwide receiving their results," said Dr. Siva Kumari, IB's director general, in the same release. "They have shown a thirst for knowledge, a determination to succeed and a conviction in their ability to take on their next best step equipped with high-quality preparation."
Anderson echoed Kumari's approbation.
"I’d like to commend Notre Dame Prep's Class of 2019 IB Diploma Program graduates for their perseverance and resiliency," she said. "They’ve taken on the highest and most prestigious academic program available to high school students in the United States. They’ve prepared themselves not only for university but also for their future careers by developing collaboration, critical-thinking and communication skills that will go far in strengthening further their roles as global citizens."
