PD session at Notre Dame focuses on mindfulness

Faculty, staff in-service features mindfulness discussion and practice presented by noted well-being coach Dave Mochel.

Acclaimed well-being coach and consultant Dave Mochel says this is a really good time of the year to think about what you practice on a daily basis. And what he means specifically is "mindfulness" practice.

"One of the reasons I love mindfulness practice is because it has many benefits – greater presence, less emotional reactivity, increased resilience and an enhanced ability to make decisions based on lasting values," said Mochel, who is a regular contributor to Huffington Post and has given inspirational talks around the world, including at the famed TEDx Talks.

On January 3, at an in-service, professional development day for Notre Dame's faculty and staff, Mochel will discuss a number of topics geared toward those working in academia.

He says he'll be providing faculty and staff with principles and practices for attentional, emotional, behavioral and social self-regulation beginning with his intro to mindfulness practice.

"In addition, I plan to discuss the neurobiology of attention, perception, conditioning, and practice; self-regulation and choice; cultivation of internal resources; mindful communication, questioning and listening; and coaching," Mochel said.

School faculty and staff will be attending in-service PD sessions January 3 on the NDPMA campus beginning at 8:30 a.m. until about 2:30 p.m.
