Competing in the Oxford Invitational Saturday, April 23, at Oxford High School, the Notre Dame Prep boys track and field team finished ninth out of 25 teams and the girls placed 12th out of 21 teams. There were a number of standout performances, however, including another record-breaking performance from senior Patrick Anger.
For the second straight meet, Anger broke his own school record in the long jump, this time with a jump of 20’-6”, five inches longer than his previous best, and placed seventh to earn a medal. Anger also was a part of the sixth-place 4x100m relay team along with senior Chris Wardlow, senior Brendan O’Sullivan, and senior Matthew Durkin.
Durkin qualified for the 200m dash final and placed sixth in the event with a time of 23.53, while also placing eighth in the high jump with a mark of 5’ 10”. Both placings earned him a medal and points for the Irish.
Senior Aidan Shurig was seventh in the 400m dash with a time of 53.20.
In distance events, senior Nathan Mylenek finished a close second in a hotly contested 1600m run with a time of 4:20.67, while junior Brendan Fraser placed eighth in the same event at 4:28.86. Fraser also was second in the 3200m run in 9:36.64.
Mylenek currently holds the season’s fastest 1600m time in the state’s Division II and the fourth fastest across all divisions, while Fraser has Division II’s second fastest 3200m time and fifth fastest across all divisions.
Senior Claire Bolden once again led the girls team by placing in all three sprint events. Bolden was fourth in the 100m dash (13.09), third in the 200m dash (26.06), and third in the 400m dash (58.87). Bolden’s 400m mark ranks at the top of the state’s Division II.
Bolden also joined sophomore Maddie Scherle, senior Lauren Kavanagh, and sophomore Lauren Neiheisel in the 4x400m relay where the team placed eighth in 4:26.30.
Neiheisel was good for fifth in the 800m run at 2:22.82, which ranks as fifth fastest in Division II this spring.
In relays, the 4x800m team consisting of freshman Lexie Case, sophomore Anna Miklas, freshman Bridgette Joslin and senior Lauren Kavanagh was good for sixth place with a time of 10:57.64.
