Lower school celebrates mass this week as new Stations of the Cross plaques get a special blessing.
On Wednesday, March 28, in the middle of Holy Week 2018, Notre Dame's lower school got together for mass celebrated by school corporate president, Fr. Leon Olszamowski, s.m.
During the mass, Olszamowski also blessed special newly created Stations of the Cross plaques that were installed in the school's activity center. According to lower school art teacher, Michelle Zimmerman, the plaques were produced with the help of third-grade students.
"I designed the 15 plaques to connect visually with the 'Children's Way of the Cross' booklet the students have been studying," she said. "The visual similarities between the art in the booklet and in the relief carvings that it inspired will help students connect the meaning of the images to the passion of our Lord."
Zimmerman used students in Donna Stuk's third-grade class during the plaques' glazing process "so they could experience making a matching series of ceramic tiles that have great significance to our faith.”
