Tomorrow, the Catholic High School League of Detroit is hosting its annual Prep Bowl at Ford Field in downtown Detroit and it would be pretty tough to spend more than a half hour in the stadium without seeing something Notre Dame.
A full day of high school football is planned and league crowns will be won or lost in three scheduled games with the first—Notre Dame Prep vs. Loyola—beginning at 1 p.m.
The Irish, currently ranked #3 in Division 4, will look to avenge their only loss of the season to this point, a 42-17 defeat to the Bulldogs on September 25. In addition, the Notre Dame Marching Band will play the National Anthem prior to the NDP-Loyola game. The band also is scheduled to perform at halftime.
Also, at halftime, 26 current Notre Dame students will be recognized as Scholastic All-Catholic winners and following the 4 p.m. game between Our Lady of the Lakes and Riverview Gabriel Richard, there will be a 50-year reunion celebration to honor the 1965 Notre Dame High School football team, which defeated St. Ambrose that year in CHSL’s Soup Bowl.
The nightcap at 7 p.m. will decide the CHSL AB championship, with St. Mary’s Prep taking on 2014 state champion De La Salle, which is coached by Notre Dame High School alum Paul Verska, Class of 1963.
Go Irish!
