Notre Dame Senior is Miss Teen Michigan United States, Looks Forward to Working with Charity

Notre Dame Prep senior Allison Perkins was chosen Miss Teen Michigan United States last night in a statewide event held in Lansing. She will represent the entire state in a national competition during the July-4th weekend in Washington, D.C.

It’s a pretty cool honor to be chosen as the only one out of many from the state to represent Michigan nationally this summer. But for Perkins, she’s more interested in the work she will do for a charity organization she's allied herself to as part of the Miss Michigan United States organization.

“For me, it’s really more important to work with the charity I chose to be part of the pageant,” she said. “I chose 'Notes for Notes' because of the awesome work they do for underprivileged youth.”

Notes for Notes designs, equips, and staffs after-school recording studios inside Boys & Girls Clubs across the country. “They offer young people the opportunity to explore, create, and record music for free, and they plan to open up a studio in Detroit this summer,” she said.

Like most high school seniors, Perkins is currently working out college plans. She said Michigan State University and Grand Valley State University are on her radar. “I’m not quite finally decided on a major, but I’d like to at least minor in music,” she said.

Perkins, in a photo taken March 22, will work with a special charity this summer as part of her duties as Miss Teen Michigan.

Music has been a big part of her young life already—she is in Notre Dame’s chamber choir and has been playing piano for more than seven years—so working with music and helping those in need are really important for her. “That’s why I’m excited about Notes for Notes and helping the kids. I can’t wait!”
