Mitchell Ballew is the 20th from Notre Dame in recent years to receive Eagle Scout status.
Notre Dame senior Mitchell Ballew has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award given by the Boy Scouts of America. According to BSA, only about 4 percent of the nearly three million scouts nationwide earn Eagle Scout status.
Ballew is the 20th from Notre Dame Prep to receive Eagle Scout status and joins his brother, William ('16) and other fellow NDP students or alums Kalan Hand, John Kenny, Christopher VanDieren, Austin Greif, Kevin Cragg, Logan Hand, Anthony VanDieren, Logan Verheyen, Brennan Eagle, Tyler Obear, Ryan Flaherty, Ryan Dau, Ian Lacy, Erik Egner, Connor Verheyen, Jack Stouffer, Joe Lombardo and Peter Dondanville who also have received such an honor.
Ballew, from Waterford, Michigan's Troop 51, received his final paperwork in April. His Eagle project involved building a Ga-Ga pit recreation game for his church's new Community Center. Ga-Ga is a variant of dodgeball that is played with one ball.
