Notre Dame Preparatory School's counseling department announced today that Jason Whalen has been hired as a counselor. He replaces Justine Sciriha, who has left Notre Dame after 20 years in the counseling office.
Whalen comes to NDP from Clarkston High School, where he served as a school counselor for four years. Prior to Clarkston, he was director of college counseling at University of Detroit-Jesuit High School from 2002 to 2010. He began his professional career at Albion College, where he served as admissions counselor for two years.
Whalen holds an M.A. degree in school counseling from the University of Detroit-Mercy as well as a B.A. degree from Albion College where he also was a four-year letter winner in both football and track and field. He is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Michigan Counseling Association and the National Association for College Admission Counseling.
For the upcoming school year, Whalen will be responsible for Notre Dame juniors and seniors with last names beginning with A through G.
