Notre Dame Marist Academy – Middle Division has received the designation of "Evergreen School" by the Michigan Green Schools Program of Oakland County. It’s the highest level of achievement available from the program, which is dedicated to assisting all Michigan schools achieve environmental goals that include protecting the air, land, water and animals of the state.
“A review panel has thoroughly examined and evaluated your application for adherence to PA 301 (2010) as well as to the guidelines set forth by the Southeast Michigan Green Schools collaborative group which consists of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne County coordinators," said the official announcement from the Green Schools program. “After a thorough review and evaluation, your school has earned the designation of Evergreen, the highest honor for the 2014-15 program year.”
Twenty activities make up the criteria for the three different levels of certification. A school achieving 10 out of 20 activities can apply to be designated a Michigan Green School; attaining 15 out of 20 criteria means a school can apply to be designated a Michigan Emerald School; and meeting all 20 criteria earns a Michigan Evergreen School status.
The middle school’s E-Club was instrumental in earning the designation, according to Kim Smith, the middle division’s guidance counselor and E-Club moderator. The members are listed below.
