Clubs, Academic Competitions & Activities

Band
Grades 4 & 5
Students in 5th grade have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument. This beginning band class meets three days a week during the lunch/recess period under the direction of the NDMA music instructor.

Christian Service Projects
NDMA sponsors several service projects throughout the year to benefit charities and to help others in need.

Drama Club
Grades 3-5
Students audition in late fall for selected parts. Rehearsals last throughout the school year until the production in late May.

International Day Celebration
All students and faculty participate in this wonderful day filled with fun and celebration! After creating classroom murals and floats, all grades spend an exciting afternoon moving through organized stations of special activities, crafts, games and foods. NDMA educators and parent volunteers facilitate this day, which is planned and organized by the NDMA Spanish instructor.

Concerts
All NDMA students (JK-5) perform on stage in the Christmas Concert and Spring Concert. The Christmas Concert is held in December, and the Spring Concert is held in April.
 
Daddy-Daughter Dance
Each spring, all NDMA girls have a chance to step out with their dads for a special night on the dance floor. The Friday night event typically takes place in late April.

Field Day
All NDMA students and faculty participate in this fun-filled day toward the end of the school year. Students compete in well-planned outdoor field activities and games. Students also enjoy a wonderful lunch provided by the Parents Club.

Field Trips
NDMA students and teachers enjoy several educational and fun field trips throughout the year.

Irish Week
All NDMA students and faculty enjoy this fun spirit week in March. The week’s activities include: a scavenger hunt; “Weekstakes,” an all-school trivia game modeled after “Jeopardy”; St. Patrick’s Day Mass at the UD/MD campus; a free pizza lunch, and more! Throughout the week students can earn points for their grade by participating in classroom door decorating, class banner designing, and wearing approved theme costumes and class t-shirts. The head-to-head spirit competition between grades culminates with the “Irish Week” games, which include an obstacle course, hula hoop relay, potato relay and Marist 500.

Mackinac Island Trip
Grade 5
Each spring 5th grade students have the opportunity to make a three-day, two-night trip to Mackinac Island, where they stay at the Grand Hotel, tour local points of interest and hear speakers from the professional business community.

Mother-Son Event
An interactive evening for moms and sons in late March.

National Geographic Bee
Grades 4-5
This educational outreach program is a nationwide contest sponsored by National Geographic World. Students in 4th and 5th grade compete in an exciting school competition. The winning student completes a written test, and if his/her score qualifies, he/she will advance to the regional level.

Oakland Press Spelling Bee
Grade 5
Fifth grade students compete in a school spelling bee. The winner advances to the regional final where he/she will compete against other area winners at Oakland University.

Ski Club
Both Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy novice and experienced skiers enjoy skiing at a local ski resort once a week after school.
 
Student Council
Grades 3-5
Students who enjoy the challenge and excitement of planning student activities and strengthening their leadership abilities should consider running for a Student Council position in the fall. Student representatives and officers meet every other week throughout the school year to plan fun activities for the school, as well as Christian service activities.
 
Talent Show
Grades 3-5
Toward the end of every school year, students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to show off their skills in the performing arts at our Talent Show. Students have five minutes to impress their classmates, teachers and families at this after-school event.
