Congratulations to Notre Dame Prep alum, Richard Vanden Boom (’02), who was named principal of Waterford-based Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School. An announcement by Our Lady of the Lakes follows:
Rev. Father Michael Gawlowski, President of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School, is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Vanden Boom, current Principal at Delta Junction High School in Alaska, to the position of Principal at Our Lady of the Lakes High School.
Originally from Lake Orion and a 2002 Notre Dame Preparatory School graduate, Mr. Vanden Boom is a family man who has a strong Catholic faith and is firmly rooted in Catholic tradition. He and his wife, Corey, have two children and they are excited to make the transition from Delta Junction, Alaska, to the Waterford area.
Mr. Vanden Boom has been serving in the Delta-Greely School district for the past eight years taking on a variety of educational roles. He began teaching high school science and radio broadcasting, before becoming the administrator of the Delta Elementary School that he led to become a blue-ribbon school in 2014. During this time, Mr. Vanden Boom was also the radio' station manager at KDHSLP in Delta Junction. He has coached both football and boys basketball, and he received the Aurora Conference Coach of the Year in 2012-2013. This past year Mr. Vanden Boom has been the high school principal at Delta Junction. He has also been very active in the district as a Health and Wellness Director, a Career and Technical Coordinator, and he won the Delta High School Teacher of the Year award for 2011 -2012.
Mr. Vanden Boom holds a master's degree in educational administration from Montana State University and a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Western Michigan University. He is also certified as a secondary principal in Montana, Michigan, and Alaska.
Mr. Vanden Boom is an exceptional leader who emphasizes collaboration, technology, and an "intervention for all" approach. He is deeply committed to developing "collaboration between staff, parents, community, administration, and of course, students". Mr. Vanden Boom exhibits high expectations and a commitment to the success of every student at OLL. With his background in education and communications, we are fortunate to have such an extraordinary educator who will serve as Principal of Our Lady of the Lakes High School.
