Notre Dame 7th grader heads to Europe to play soccer

julian-leeJulian Lee, a seventh grader at Notre Dame's middle division and a kicker for the Marist varsity football team, will be spending much of his summer in Europe as part of a soccer tour reserved for few youngsters in the U.S.

Lee first heads to Thessaloniki, Greece, this month to represent the United States in the 2015 Mytikas Cup International Soccer Tournament. According to tournament organizers, there will be soccer scouts from many professional teams from Greece, Italy, and the famed FC Barcelona on hand to watch the budding soccer stars. Lee then will travel to Khalkidiki, Greece, to participate in an international all-sports camp on the Aegean Sea.

Lee has been playing soccer for eight years and plays for Vardar U-13 Boys Premier. He also is one of only 18 13-year-olds in the state of Michigan to be selected to be part of the Coerver Soccer Performance Academy, a global soccer coaching program inspired by the teachings of Wiel Coerver and created in 1984 by Alfred Galustian and Chelsea great, Charlie Cooke. The Performance Academy is fully funded by professional soccer teams in Europe and pays for all of Lee’s training. Apparently, Coerver scouts visited Notre Dame last summer looking for new talent.

Once Lee finishes at the middle division and gets to Notre Dame’s upper division, he said his goal is to play for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame Prep.
