Notre Dame Preparatory School announced today that Jonathan C. Barbee has joined the Fighting Irish athletics staff as head coach of track and field, effective immediately. Barbee replaces Megan Thayer, who is now the athletic director at Bishop Foley High School.
A graduate of St. Benedict grade school in Waterford and Pontiac/Oakland Catholic, both of which served as predecessor schools for NDPMA, Barbee ran track at Pontiac/Oakland Catholic and served as assistant football coach at Notre Dame Prep in 1999 and was the school's first cross country and track coach. He is employed by Oakland County and works in communications.
"I am putting together a great staff to continue the great tradition and legacy of Notre Dame Prep track and field," Barbee said. "I also want the student-athletes to continue to become even better students, athletes and good role models in their communities. I look forward to getting to know the students and parents, and wish the coaches and athletes all the best."
Barbee is assembling a coaching staff that includes current cross-country coach and math teacher Anthony Kulick as well as Bob Batzloff, Mike Christmon, Mike Johnson and Dave Pavetto.
