NDP’s Carlson Is Runner-Up For National Honors

Notre Dame Prep's Katherine Carlson finished a very close second in PrepVolleyball.com's National High School Junior of the Year award, which has never been won by a Michigan player.

"An awesome finish and honor," says Carlson's coach, Betty Wroubel.

PrepVolleyball said that Carlson's performance this season was nearly the same as the winner of the award, Alexa Smith, who played for Lewis-Palmer High School in Colorado.

From the writeup by John Tawa: "There was one player, however, whose high school credentials last fall virtually mirrored what Smith accomplished with Lewis-Palmer. Katherine Carlson, of Notre Dame Prep in Michigan, amassed more than 1,000 kills for a 62-2-1 team that captured the Michigan Class B title. The 5-11 outside hitter, who was a six-rotation stat stuffer for the Fighting Irish, earned First Team All-State honors and was a factor nationally for her Legacy 16-1 club team, earning All-Tournament honors at both AAU Nationals, which Legacy won; and USAV Junior Nationals. Trying to differentiate between the two kept me up nights."

Congratulations, Katherine!
