Notre Dame Prep's varsity volleyball team won its first Catholic league Championship since 2007 with a straight-set victory over Marian last night at Madonna University, 30-28, 25-20 and 25-18. The Irish (54-2-1) fought off two Marian set points at 25 and 26 with a kill by Katherine Carlson and a well-timed block by Ellen Guerra in the opening game before pulling out the 30-28 win with two kills by Dani McCormick.

The Irish were led offensively by outside hitters Katherine Carlson’s 17 kills and three aces, McCormick’s nine kills, one ace and a block. McCormick had several powerful and well placed hits that kept the Mustang offense out of its system at key moments of the CHSL A-B championship match. Hannah Antosz and Ashley Knutson (13 digs) combined for 31 assists and Emma Kowalkowski added 17 digs of her own.

The Irish are off until district play.
