Angela Carraher, a 4th grader in Notre Dame's lower division, and her brother Vaughn, a 6th grader in the middle division, received a big surprise on May 8 when their father, who had been deployed with the U.S. Navy in Bahrain, showed up unannounced to greet them in school.
Lieutenant Patrick Carraher had been in Bahrain for "some time," according to middle-school principal, Jill Mistretta. She said Lt. Carraher had planned the visit for awhile and was hoping to keep it a big secret from his two children.
All went according to plan and Angela and Vaughn were both shocked and extremely happy to see their dad. They introduced him to classmates and Lt. Carraher thanked the students for all the cards and letters they've been sending to him and fellow service members stationed at Shaykh Isa Air Base in Bahrain.
