Notre Dame students once again demonstrate commitment to Marist values.
A number of 8th graders from Notre Dame’s middle division will be pitching in at a fundraiser on March 5 for a local non-profit based only a few minutes from the school.
Humble Design, a Metro-Detroit based non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless families in need, is hosting its annual ‘The Beauty Within’ fundraiser, which will be held this year at The Reserve in Birmingham. To date, Humble Design has furnished the homes of nearly 500 Detroit-area families who emerged from homeless and abuse shelters.
The now-sold-out event, ‘The Beauty Within,’ will be held on March 5, 2016, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at The Reserve, which is located at 325 S. Eton in Birmingham, Mich. This elegant evening of pampering, shopping and socializing will benefit deserving families in need, according to organizers.
According to Liz Brisley, the mother of Notre Dame students Claire (8th grade) and Grant (7th grade), the event includes lunch, a silent auction, and a panel of prominent local women, including Denise Ilitch, president of Ilitch Enterprises; Pamela Rodgers, owner of Rodgers Chevrolet and Jennifer Gilbert, founder and CEO of Amber Engine. The afternoon will be moderated by TV news personality Rhonda Walker.
Brisley said Notre Dame students Claire Brisley, Tori Case, Izzy Collazo, Amelia Cumming, Emily Czarnecki, Sabrina Fitzgerald, Clare Hampel, MacKenzie Hanigan, Meghan Kozole, Lauren Lopez, Sana Maqueem, Emily Mohr, Elizabeth Moran, Olivia Smoger and Katie Topoleski all volunteered to give up their free time next Saturday to help a very worthy cause.
“These 8th graders will be helping out the day of the event with set up, registration, the silent auction, raffle tickets, etc., said Liz Brisley. “I’m excited that so many of the girls stepped up to help support this great organization and I am also excited that the guests at the event get to see what great community-focused kids we have Notre Dame.”
About Humble Design
Located at 180 N. Saginaw in Pontiac, Mich., Humble Design is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to helping homeless families in need. Humble Design turns four bare walls into a clean, dignified and welcoming home by repurposing gently used household goods. Humble Design partners with local area homeless and abuse shelters to identify families who are emerging out of shelters. Many of theses families are victims of abuse and have left behind all personal items upon escaping and entering an emergency shelter. When these families move into their new residence, Humble Design comes in and makes their house a home! Giving them back their dignity and hope for the future!
