Junior vocalist gets first place in state-wide competition

Notre Dame junior Camilla Munaco earned first place in the annual MAC OPEN Fall Classic Competition, which was held Nov. 5-6 at the Evola Music Store in Shelby Township. Her first-place award was in the vocal duet division of the competition.

Munaco, who also starred in Notre Dame’s production of “Anything Goes” this past weekend, competed along with 613 other students from all over Michigan, including pianists, vocalists and instrumentalists who participated in various events such as those called American League, National League, Duets and Concertos.

Vanessa C. Schwarz, who organized the event, said the Notre Dame community should be proud of Munaco.

“Congratulations to both Camilla and to your wonderful school on teaching such a fine student and helping her to a bright future,” she said. “We would also like to invite any Notre Dame students to participate in our MAC OPEN next fall. We encourage pianists, vocalists and any other instrumentalist to participate. Students of all ages and levels are welcome.”

The MAC OPEN invites students from Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties to participate in a piano and voice competition, where students get to pick two solos from any genre to perform for a judge, and compete against others at the same level/skill/approximate age. Divisions are divided with eight or less in each event, and students winning 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place get a trophy engraved with their name on it.
