Notre Dame Prep successfully defended their title at the West Bloomfield tournament yesterday, going undefeated on the day without losing a single set.
The Irish swept through pool play going 4-0 with two-set wins over South Lyon (25-11 / 25-18), Lutheran Northwest (25-6, 25-4), and Bloomfield (25-14, 25-14) to advance to the gold round as the number one seed. NDP defeated Avondale in the quarterfinals, 25-10, 25-18, and Walled Lake Western in the semis, 25-16 and 25-18, setting up the championship match with number two-seeded Fenton.
The match did not disappoint as rallies often went back and forth with each team digging up ball after ball. In the end, it was Notre Dame Prep prevailing, 9-27 and 25-12.
The Irish were led by All-American Katherine Carlson's 62 kills (125/135 attacking), Dani McCormick, who added 28 kills with a 59/68 attacking performance. Bella Bucchi led the defense with 30 digs to go along with 26 serving points. She was aided in the cause by sophomore Emma Kowalkowski’s 23 digs and 27 serving points.
