Layne Anderson, head coach of the University of Iowa cross country team and the distance coach on the UI track and field team, recently announced that Notre Dame senior Nate Mylenek has committed to the Hawkeye men’s cross country team.
From Layne: “Nathan placed 4th in the most recent Michigan State Division 2 Cross Country Championships and was off to a fabulous start with the indoor season (4:17 mile) before getting sick. He was the state 3200m champion as a sophomore as well, and has his sights set for a championship end to his outstanding high school career. He has an interest in engineering and joins what is shaping up to be a fantastic recruiting class for the Hawkeye distance program.”
As an Irish runner, Mylenek won a state championship for Notre Dame in the spring of 2014 when he finished first in the 3200 at the MHSAA D-2 finals with a time of 9:37.
Mylenek also earned his third All-American designation last summer when he finished second in the steeplechase (6:21.58) at the 2015 AAU Junior Olympics Games, which were held in Norfolk, Virginia.
Congratulations, Nate!
