Notre Dame's award-winning robotics organizations have a busy and exciting couple of weeks beginning this Wednesday as they compete in three different world championships.
NDPMA's high school team, #33, The Killer Bees, will be competing at the FRC World Championship in Detroit this Wednesday through Saturday. The event is so large it will use all of Cobo Center and Ford Field. Admission is free and The Killer Bees will be in the Daly division. More details here. There also will be a live webcast, which will be available here. In FRC competition, each school fields one large team that builds one large metal robot.
At the same time, Notre Dame's 7th and 8th grade teams, #3333, The Mildly Aggressive Bees, will be at the Vex World Championship held in Louisville, Kentucky, from Wednesday through Sunday. This is an equally huge event but with smaller metal robots that are built by teams of three to five students. Two Notre Dame teams will be competing at Vex Worlds. More details here. Live webcast here. Team 3333B (7th graders) will be in the Spirit division and team 3333Y (7th/8th grades) will be in the Opportunity division.
Finally, Notre Dame's 4th-, 5th- and 6th-grade VEX IQ teams, #3333, The Bumble Bees, will also compete in their own World Championship in Louisville, Kentucky, but from Sunday next week through Tuesday. Vex IQ robots are made from snap-together plastic parts by teams of three to five students. Three of NDPMA's Vex IQ teams advanced to Worlds: Team 3333K (4th graders) will be in the Hubble division, 3333S (5th graders) will be in Viking and 3333J (6th graders) will be in the Engineering division.
