Experienced architect, school parent joins board’s building committee

Janice Suchan is a senior principal and the managing leader for the Detroit-area office of Stantech, a global design and architectural firm.

Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy announced today that Janice Suchan, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, has agreed to serve on the school's Board of Trustees building committee.

According to school officials, Suchan, who is the mother of a junior in Notre Dame's upper school, will be an invaluable resource due in large part to current and future facility plans for NDPMA.

“Janice Suchan comes to the board after a recommendation by Steve Pangori, who is board chair-elect and chair of our building committee," said Andy Guest, NDPMA head of school. "Her extensive architectural experience will be very advantageous to us as we go forward with current and future expansion plans of the school. We welcome Janice’s expertise and willingness to serve our Catholic, Marist mission.”

Suchan is a senior principal and the managing leader for the Detroit-area office of Edmonton, Canada-based Stantec Architecture, a full service architectural and engineering firm with offices on nearly every continent. A 1994 graduate of the University of Detroit, Suchan has dedicated her entire career to the management, development and design of facilities located nearly exclusively at colleges and universities.

Recent projects for Suchan include Grand Valley State University’s Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons and Central Michigan University’s Biosciences Building.

Well-versed in the science and art of architecture as well as its business and management, Suchan has been recognized by Crain’s Detroit Business as a “40 Under 40” rising star and early in her career was named American Institute of Architects Detroit’s “Young Architect of the Year.” She also serves as a member of both the University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture Advisory Board and the ACE Mentorship Board's Michigan Chapter.
