This week, members of Notre Dame Prep's new Engineering and Empathy class, which is taught by Louise Palardy, the school's STEM specialist and manager of the robotics center, were able to demonstrate prototypes of their products designed to make a difference in the community.
The class chose Angel’s Place, a Southfield-based nonprofit that provides and creates nurturing, Christ-centered homes, communities and services for life-long care, to debut their designs.
"Each invention was created as a result of an individual's need," Palardy said. "We already visited Angel's Place once as part of the research phase. On Wednesday, we returned to show the staff and residents how the products will work when put in to production."
She said the projects and the kids were well-received.
"The students did a great job at the demonstration of their prototypes at Angel's Place," she added. "The feedback they received was very valuable. Now we are going to do some in-class presentations on Monday beginning at 12:30 p.m."
