Notre Dame alums and brothers use business and artistic skills to team up on new product for family business. Notre Dame alums Jeff (’04), left, and Joe (’00) Powers opened HomeGrown Brewing Company in Oxford on April 12, 2017.
Now, Notre Dame alums Jeff (’04) and Joe (’00) Powers, business entrepreneurs and members of the family responsible for founding and managing the Oxford, Mich.-based business, are branching out after a successful start and launching new take-out cans.
Artist Jeff Powers designed the unique can artwork for HomeGrown’s new product offering.
“But now that we have a full year’s experience behind us we wanted to move into canning as well,” said owner John Powers, Jeff and Joe's father.
Cans will be available at the brewery from October 2 and head brewer Joe Powers said it’s a way to meet the increasing demands of HomeGrown’s customers.
“Lots of people make use of our take-home growlers, but these cans will be a welcome addition – they last longer and appeal to people who don’t want to drink a whole growler in one sitting,” he said.
HomeGrown general manager and artist Jeff Powers designed the unique can artwork and said he’s proud that it will be such an integral part of the brewery’s marketing.
“I was inspired by the art nouveau poster designs of the ‘60s and ‘70s, stained-glass imagery and traditional block printing methods,” he said.
