Cubicle life wasn’t for him

Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy counts many of the best teachers in Michigan among its faculty. And what sets them even further apart is their genuine caring for the students as well as a passion for Notre Dame's central mission.

In this video, part of a series of videos on representatives of Notre Dame's exemplary faculty and staff, Brian Perry, a social studies teacher in the upper school, talks about why he is a teacher and why he loves teaching at Notre Dame.

Perry said that after working a few years in a corporate environment, he realized that living “in a cubicle, nine to five, in the business world just wasn’t for me.” He said that now as a teacher, he just simply loves what he’s doing and looks forward to work every day.

Perry also points out how much he appreciates teaching at Notre Dame.

He said he knew about Notre Dame before hiring in and he knew about the challenging academics and how students at the school really want to learn the material, and that certainly appealed to him.

In fact, Perry said, he’s been able to create some of his own challenging classes. “Never would I thought I’d be able to start a class called ‘U.S. History Through Film’ course at a school,” he said. “Yet I’ve been able to do that here.”

More from Perry is in the video below. Enjoy!
