‘Brightest and best’

Notre Dame senior honored by local TV station as 'brightest and best.'

Notre Dame senior Anna Miklas was among more than 200 young men and women from 10 different counties in Michigan who were honored Saturday, May 12, by WXYZ-TV for academic achievements and community service throughout their high school careers.

For more than three decades, WXYZ-Channel 7 has welcomed graduates and their families for a morning of celebration at station headquarters in Southfield.

Miklas will graduate from Notre Dame Prep on May 20 with high honors, as a valedictorian and as a candidate for the International Baccalaureate Diploma. She has played soccer, volleyball and track for the Irish, but focuses most of her attention on art and her community organization, Head Heart Art.

More on Miklas and Head Heart Art is here.

Miklas will attend Williams College where she hopes to double major in art history and economics. In the future, she said, she would like to become more involved in the art world. "Both the business and curatorial side of art is exciting to me," she said.

Students at the Brightest and Best event yesterday also were able to take part in a Twitter scavenger hunt put on by WXYZ, which required them to run around the grounds, mingle with WXYZ reporters and anchors, and snap photos. They took over social media with their adventures and you can get a recap by checking out the hashtag #BrightestAndBest on Twitter.

According to Mike Murri, vice president and general manager of WXYZ-TV, Best and Brightest is a public recognition of academic achievement and commitment to community service by high school seniors in Metro Detroit.

"It is a wonderful moment for them, their families, their friends and the State of Michigan as a whole," Murri said. "Without question, they are poised to become future leaders of many different professions. The future is what they make it."
