Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy's youth summer camps will soon be here on campus. And this year, Notre Dame's summer program is bigger and more diverse than ever before and parent/student interest is expected to be high. So it's time now to sign up to ensure your children get a spot in the camp of their choice.
As one of the area's most recognized programs, ND's summer camps curriculum provides safe, fun, and skill-focused experiences for kids entering grades kindergarten through 12. This year's lineup includes a wider variety of both athletic and academic camps. The program includes athletic camps in volleyball, soccer, football, basketball and tennis. Academic camps include sessions in art, college essay writing, math, debate and theatre. Camps range from two to five-and-a-half hours per day and offer instruction for all skill levels, from introductory to advanced. All camps are run by NDP faculty members or NDP coaches.
Notre Dame has been providing quality and fun-filled summer-camp experiences for more than 10 years and maintains a proven safety track record. Under the expert care of our camp coaches, kids not only learn individual, sport-oriented or creative skills, but also develop personally and socially, learning teamwork and building life skills through interaction with fellow campers.
Register now! Great camps get cancelled because too many parents wait until the last minute to register. Keep in mind our new cancellation policy – A fee of 50% of the camp cost will be assessed for any cancellations. No paper registrations accepted.
A WORD ON CONCUSSIONS
With increased awareness about the risks of concussions, Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy has chosen to follow the MHSAA concussion protocol for suspected head injuries that occur during our camps. ACADEMIC SUMMER CAMPS
Singing/Songwriting
Age/Grade: Grades 9-12
Date/Time: Songwriting: 6/17-21, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Where: NDP classroom and grounds
About: Aspiring singers and songwriters, take note! Students in our Songwriting camp will learn how to write music and how to use instruments in songwriting, while participating in solo and group activities. The camp will conclude with a culminating project on the last day of camp to showcase what the students have learned.
Day Camp
Age/Grade: Grades PK-5
Date/Time: 5 or 3 days per week, beginning week of 6/17 and ending week of 7/29, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
*Morning extended care available from 7 to 8 a.m., and evening care available from 4 to 6 p.m.

Lego Explorer
Age/Grade: Grades 1-4

About: More than toys, LEGO building blocks are a doorway to mathematics, science, and technology. They also are a blast to play with, providing endless possibilities for creativity. Students in this camp will discover creativity options with blocks, then work with Jr. FIRST LEGO League Simple Machines kits to explore key scientific models like levers, pulleys and gears. Young builders who attend this camp will enjoy great hands-on opportunities to learn some basic engineering—and “Imagineering”—with some preparing for JrFLL participation in the upcoming competition season. Daily snacks and a camp t-shirt will be provided.
VEX IQ Robotics
Age/Grade: Grades 3-6
Date/Time: 6/24-28, 9 a.m. to Noon

Where: NDPMA Robotics Center
About: Design, build, program and compete with your own robot! Robotics builds STEM concepts and skills while having fun and focusing on the new VEX IQ Game Challenge for the 2019-20 competition season. All supplies will be provided. Robots will not be taken home, but participants may take pictures and/or videos of the robots.
College Application Essay Workshop
Age/Grade: Grade 12
Date/Time: Session 1: 7/8-12, Noon to 3 p.m.

About: Any student part of the Class of 2020 is welcome to attend this process-based camp. Students will write about themselves in a clear, concrete, honest and original voice. The focus of this camp will be to avoid generic, pedestrian writing in favor of a colorful and refreshing style that will stand out in quality and originality.

Age/Grade: Grades 1-5
Date/Time: 7/8-12, 9 a.m. to Noon

About: Young actors will be introduced to playmaking, a process of making theater as an ensemble through creative play. Students will explore acting, storytelling, costumes, props, music and movement to bring a timeless folktale to life on stage. They also will learn how to sing, act and dance to a Broadway-style song.
VEX VRC Robotics
Age/Grade: Grades 7-12
Date/Time: 7/8-12, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

About: Design, build, program and compete with your own robot! About: Students will learn the basics of creating a strong character on stage and performing in front of a room of people. Students will explore acting, storytelling, improvisation, writing and scene work to grow as a confident performer. They also will learn how to sing, act and dance to several Broadway-style songs through solo and ensemble work. We will hold a showcase for families and friends on the final day of camp.
Theater Stage Crew
Age/Grade: Grades 4-11
Date/Time: 7/17-19, W-Th, 1 to 4 p.m.; F, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

About: Learn what it takes to create a show behind the scenes! Students will have the opportunity to design and create sets, props and costumes for the theater camp performance on Friday at noon. They also will learn how to run sound and lights for the show. Lessons on stage makeup also will be included.
Youth STEM Tech Camp
Age/Grade: Grades 4-8
Date/Time: 7/15-19, 9 a.m. to Noon

About: This STEM-infused tech camp encompasses tinkering with a micro-computer, escaping a cybersecurity threat, piloting drones, developing code, designing games, using 3D printers, and creating videos, as well exposure to a variety of software applications like Minecraft. Campers will be engaged to think critically, solve problems, and collaborate in a fun, creative learning environment. Each participant will receive his or her own microcontroller computer. This amazing versatile unit stirs creativity to help children develop an interest in coding, robotics, engineering, and game development. No prior technical skills required.
Harry Potter Coding Workshop
Age/Grade: Grades 4-8
Date/Time: 7/23, 10 a.m. to Noon

About: This camp introduces participants to the foundational concepts of coding. Using block coding, participants will create Harry Potter spell potions, magical creatures, and artifacts, all with the coding wand. With the power of code, participants also will explore aquatic worlds and uncover hidden treasure. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to define basic coding concepts and explain the relationship between hardware and software. No experience with coding required. Seating limited to 10 students.
Make Code Arcade Workshop
Age/Grade: Grades 4-8
Date/Time: 7/25, 10 a.m. to Noon

About: Participants will use block coding to create a video game with MakeCode Arcade. Students will learn fundamental game and coding concepts―like sprites, variables, and coordinates―and use their new skills to create and customize a playable game. By the end of the workshop, students will have learned and used key game design and coding concepts. Collaboration will be encouraged to provide inspiration. Participants will publish their game online so they can continue to play and develop it after the workshop. No experience with coding required.
Public Speaking and Interpersonal Communications and Skills
Age/Grade: Grades 10-12

About: Learn soft skills for the real world! Learn how to share ideas confidently, clearly, and with poise. Learn how to speak up and communicate in a small group or with a single person. Practice conversing for interviews, presentations, and online communications.
Basic Composition

About: Ever feel nervous or a sense of dread when confronted with writing a paper? This weeklong session will help students develop and refine basic composition skills that can be used in English and all other classes. Students will learn how to create strong thesis statements, topic sentences, and supporting arguments, in addition to making an outline, draft, and learning how to effectively revise their writing for presentation. These basic skills are a necessary foundation for all students to develop as their individual writing style and voice matures throughout their academic careers.
Forensics Edge: Speech and Debate Camp
Age/Grade: Grades 6-12

About: Learning to present yourself well in front of others is an invaluable skill. Forensics is that skill, whether it is performing a dramatic interpretation, giving a speech, or debating your beliefs. In conjunction with the Eastern Michigan University forensics team, we are pleased to offer a skills workshop and coaching camp for students active in forensics competition, those interested in becoming proficient, or learners who just want to gain the skills to make every presentation, speaking activity, or writing project better. NDP Congressional Debate and Public Forum team members will work directly with their respective coaches on skill-building and tournament prep for the season. Lunch will be provided daily, and students will get a camp t-shirt. For active competitors, camp personnel would be happy to coordinate with your coach to begin selection and preparation of a new piece for the upcoming school year.
Math Conditioning Camp
Age/Grade: Grades 5-9
Date/Time: 8/7-9, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

About: Get ready to fracture fractions, decimate decimals, pulverize proportions, vaporize variables, exterminate exponents, and eliminate equations and inequalities! One week of calculator calisthenics will have students ready for a winning math season. Don’t miss your chance to use math for fun, like designing a parking lot at Disney World, evaluating the Body Mass Index of celebrities, and comparing the salaries of professional athletes.
Middle School 101
Age/Grade: Grade 6 or new to NDMA-Middle Division
Date/Time: 8/6-8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

About: Any student currently enrolled in the Class of 2025, or who is new to NDMA may attend. The purpose of the workshop is to provide information about socializing, making friendships, building self-esteem, time management, organizational strategies, stress management, and navigating middle school in a fun environment.

SUMMER CAMP POLICIES
Refund/Cancellation Policy
100% refund/transfer if Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy (NDPMA) cancels program. Refund/transfer requests must be submitted in writing to the appropriate camp manager. Please note our new cancellation policy. A 50% fee of the cost of the camp shall be applied to an individual who cancels.
Non-Discrimination Policy
NDPMA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or disability in employment opportunities or the provision of service, programs or activities.
Lunches / Snacks
Where noted, each child is responsible for providing his/her own nutritious lunch/snack—including a drink—to camp daily. Refrigerators and microwaves are not available for camp use.
Clothes
Children should dress appropriately for camp. Play clothes that can get dirty, as well as sports-appropriate shoes and socks are required.
Photography Waiver
Pictures may be taken of your child while participating in summer camp activities and may be used for program publicity.
Basic Facility Rules
– No unauthorized running inside facilities.
– No cellphone usage by campers during sessions.
– No foul and abusive language toward instructors or other campers.
– No eating or drinking except in designated areas.
– No toys, games, CD players or MP3s allowed in camps.
– Return borrowed supplies at the end of the day.
– Campers should not bring money with them unless given permission to do so. NDPMA staff and instructors are not responsible for money brought by campers.
Sick Children
If a camper is not feeling well enough to participate in the summer camp program, the camper should stay home. Any child who has the following symptoms within a 24-hour period is not permitted to attend the program: temperature over 100°; vomiting; diarrhea; eye irritation; sore throat; rash. If a child becomes sick while at camp, the child’s parent/guardian will be asked to pick up his/her child. If the parent/guardian cannot be reached, the emergency contact will be called.
Drop-off and Pick-up
Parents/guardians are required to physically enter the camp facility to pick up/drop off. If someone other than the child’s guardian will be picking him or her up, let the camp instructor know in writing that morning.
Lost Items
NDPMA is not responsible for any personal items lost or stolen at our camps. Lockers will be available, but participants should bring a lock if they wish to secure items.
Discipline Policy
NDPMA staff are dedicated to a discipline policy that is neither humiliating nor degrading. The school reserves the right to remove a child from the program at any time. If a child continues to break the rules after repeated warnings the parent/guardian will be asked to meet with the child’s instructor to discuss other ways to help guide their child toward positive behavior. The program reserves the right to dismiss any child from the program who is harmful or a threat to the well being of other children or staff.
