Ridiculously good education

Alum and current lower division teacher says Notre Dame’s sense of education is ridiculously good and that teaching there was like coming home again.

Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy counts many of the best teachers in Michigan among its faculty. And what sets them even further apart is their genuine caring for the students as well as a passion for Notre Dame's central mission.

In this video, part of a series of videos on representatives of Notre Dame's exemplary faculty and staff, Molly (Coldren) Campbell, a fourth-grade teacher in the lower school and a Notre Dame Prep graduate (2008), talks about why she became a teacher and what made her decide to come back and teach at Notre Dame.

A standout student and athlete at both Notre Dame Prep and Central Michigan University, Campbell set a number of school records at both schools, including for CMU softball, career home runs (44) and career RBIs (137).

She says she came back to Notre Dame to teach after college because it was like coming home to family after being away for awhile and that the sense of community at the school is overwhelming.

“I really want my students to understand the [Notre Dame] mission statement,” she adds. “It was the foundation for me when I went to college, and I’d like my students to understand that in life, there are so many obstacles and so many challenges, but to have that foundation, that grounding, will help them on their education journey as well as throughout their lives.”

Campbell also notes that the sense of education is “ridiculous” at Notre Dame, but she means that in the most positive way. “So much better than what I had seen during my student teaching at a public school,” she added with big emphasis on the “so much.”

More from Campbell is in the video below. Enjoy!
