Some of life’s most important lessons aren’t always just taught in school. Like how to run a household, manage a monthly budget or buy a house. But 38 students from Notre Dame's accounting 2 class spent part of the day Tuesday at the Quicken Loans Junior Achievement Finance Park in Detroit learning about the budgeting and finance skills they eventually will need to become financially responsible adults.
"Our students did a simulation of a budget at the site," NDP teacher Katrina Palushaj said. "Our kids have been studying how to live within and manage a budget, and this trip was very useful for them. While downtown on Tuesday, we also had an opportunity to tour GM's OnStar command center."
The Quicken Loans JA Finance Park is a Junior Achievement program that teaches financial literacy concepts and career exploration opportunities. At the end of the program, students typically have a one-day budget simulation where they’ll put their knowledge into practice.
