Notre Dame Prep sophomore Emma Kowalkowski, who helped the Fighting Irish win the Class B volleyball state championship in November, has been named a sophomore high honorable mention by PrepVolleyball.com, a national organization that features information about high-school and club girls volleyball.
From PrepVolleyball.com:
Emma Kowalkowski, 5-4 L, Notre Dame Prep (Pontiac, Michigan): "Kowalkowski’s coach calls her 'tiny in size, but big on impact.' This back row phenom took the libero role during the second half of the high school season. She finished it leading the team with 615 digs (4.0 digs/set), 493 serve-receive attempts, and 102 aces. Kowalkowski helped her team to the 2013 Michigan High School Volleyball Tournament, where they beat South Christian in four sets to win the Class B Michigan State Championship title. Coach Betty Wroubel could not speak any more highly of this young athlete saying, 'Emma had an outstanding second half of the season. She reads extremely well and anticipates where the attack is coming from well ahead of most plays. She is as focused an athlete as I have coached—the tougher the competition, the more Emma stepped up her game.'"
