The following is a summary of track and field accomplishments to date this season:
· Currently, performances by three NDP athletes rank within the MHSAA Division 2 “Top 10” for their individual events:
o Sophomore Claire Bolden ranks 8th in the 400m with a time of 60.94 seconds
o Junior Andrea Pangori is tied for 7th in the high jump at 5’2”
o Sophomore Nathan Mylenek ranks 10th in the 3200m with a time of 10:09
· The girls 4×200 relay team of sophomore Lauren Kavanagh, senior Maria Redoutey, Pangori, and senior Taylor Timko rank 3rd in Division 2 with a time of 1:49.30.
· The girls 4×400 relay team of Redoutey, sophomore Deema Ujayli, Timko, and Bolden rank 10th in Division 2 at 4:19.6.
· Two Irish track athletes have broken school records already this season:
o Sophomore Patrick Anger jumped 18’9” in the long jump, breaking his own previously held record of 18’6 ¼”
o Senior James Durkin ran 42.3 in the 300m hurdles breaking the record held by Max Gilles (43.1) since 2010
· Senior Max Schwegman is the current school record holder in the 200m dash, 22.22
· Freshman Brendan Fraser won the first race of his high school career last week versus Cranbrook Kingswood, 3200m
· The following Irish athletes are currently unbeaten through three meets this season:
o Nathan Mylenek, 800m, 1600m, and 3200m
o Max Schwegman, 100m and 200m
o Claire Bolden, 400m
o Junior Eric LeDuc, Discus
o Andrea Pangori, 200m
o James Durkin, 300m hurdles
· Last week, Schwegman, Durkin and senior Alejandra Gomez signed to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level: Schwegman with Princeton, Durkin with Lake Superior State University, and Gomez with Hope College.
Next test for the Irish will be a double dual meet versus Bishop Foley and Shrine at Bishop Foley on Wednesday, April 30.
