The Competitive Cheer Coaches Association of Michigan has just named Notre Dame Prep's competitive cheer coach Beth Campbell as its "2014 Competitive Cheer Coach of the Year."
On March 1, Campbell's Fighting Irish cheer team won the MHSAA Division 3 Competitive Cheer state championship in Grand Rapids. It's the fifth time Notre Dame Prep has been in the state championship round.
Campbell also was awarded with coach of the year honors at the district and regional levels this season, which made her a candidate for the 2014 state CCCAM coach of the year. According to Tricia Williams, president of CCCAM, Campbell has greatly contributed to the growth and education of the sport of competitive cheer.
"Beth competes to her team’s highest potential, always displaying class and professionalism at meets," Williams said. "She mentors other coaches, often reviewing their material and visiting their practices, to improve all teams and athletes in this sport. Beth reaches out to new coaches or isolated coaches to invite them to join our organization and share with them the resources CCCAM offers."
CCCAM's Williams also said Campbell, who finished her second year as head coach of NDP, is known for her sportsmanship and level of integrity.
"She is a passionate coach who advocates for her athletes and her teams are known for their high caliber, class and poise. Her teams win with grace and lose with dignity. Beth’s teams always treat their competitors with nothing but respect, and that happens not by chance, but by leadership."
Campbell will be honored at a CCCAM luncheon at the organization's fall meeting and also at the MHSCA Coach of the Year banquet.
