Notre Dame Third Graders Help Out Marist Schools Around The World

On May 28, the two third-grade classes in Notre Dame's lower school celebrated the successful completion of a drive to raise much-needed funds for schools around the world managed by the Marists. The students hosted a luncheon in one of the lower school's classrooms.

Known collectively as the Marists, or the Society of Mary, the Marist family includes the Marist Brothers of the Schools, Marist Sisters, Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary, the Society of Mary (Fathers and Brothers), and lay Marists: Marist Laity, Marist Associates and the Third Order of Mary. They operate ministries or schools located in Africa, Asia, Australia, South America, North America, Europe and Oceania.

Bob Patterson, a third-grade teacher at Notre Dame, which also is operated by the Marists, said the students raised more than $300 that will go to the more impoverished schools in the Marist ministry. "We celebrated the successful campaign by offering a three-course lunch to six students chosen by a random drawing of participants," he said.
