Notre Dame Prep's student council leaders attend annual conference hosted by state association; earn a top award.
Six members of Notre Dame Prep's student council leadership team are today wrapping up their three days in Grand Rapids as part of the Michigan Associations of Student Councils and Honor Societies (MASC/MAHS) annual state conference.
Andrew Hannoudi (sr), Annalise DePorre (so), Matt Wood (sr), Clare Hampel (jr), Brooke Bandy (jr) and Isabella Slifko (so) along with Nick Kator, NDP's assistant principal, dean of student affairs and student leadership and student council moderator, will be heading home this afternoon after an MASC/MAHS conference chock full of presentations and activities hosted by fellow student council and government leaders and faculty mentors.
Kator said the purpose of the conference is three-fold.
"It's about student networking and student bonding; they share ideas for how to improve student events and student involvement, and finally, there are numerous sessions on leadership: what it is and how to be a leader in today’s world," Kator said today from the conference in Grand Rapids. "The kids are doing great! They definitely are networking with students from across the state and really seem to enjoy it. It is definitely a worthwhile experience for them."
During the state conference, according to MASC/MAHS, attendees have been treated to student-driven presentations selected from regional connect events with these "showcases" presenting topics, programs and ideas that are being executed throughout the State of Michigan, ranging from peer mentor groups, anti-bullying programs, community service projects and much more.
"Each showcase contains detailed information on the action student leaders took to create change in their school and how other schools can put these ideas to work for their own schools," the conference syllabus said. "Showcase presentations are offering networking and idea-sharing sessions to our state conference line up.
In addition, NDP senior Matt Wood earned the top award for Best Student Voice presentation at the conference, according to Kator.
