Notre Dame senior Cara Bonanni was among 250 young men and women from nine different counties in Michigan who were honored Saturday, May 9, by WXYZ-TV for academic achievements and community service throughout their high school careers.
For the past 36 years, Channel 7 has hosted the "Brightest and Best" special event at WXYZ-TV headquarters in Southfield.
According to Mike Murri, vice president and general manager of WXYZ-TV, the event is a public recognition of academic achievement and commitment to community service by high school seniors in Metro Detroit.
"It is a wonderful moment for them, their families, their friends and the State of Michigan as a whole," Murri said. "Without question, they are poised to become future leaders of many different professions. The future is what they make it."
