Choir concert Tuesday to feature the music of Stevie Wonder and include a special guest star.
Notre Dame's award-winning choir program opens its new school-year program Tuesday, Oct. 16, with a concert by its high school singers featuring the music of Detroit's own Stevie Wonder.
The concert, which will be held at Notre Dame's main campus building, begins at 7 p.m. and will include a special appearance by Detroit-born Angela Davis, an accomplished R&B and soul artist who has sung alongside other great vocalists such as Alexander O'Neal, Cherrelle, Penny Wells, Misty Love, Howard Hewitt, and with noted musicians like Detroit Hall of Fame saxophonist Duane Parham and legendary Detroit keyboardist Al McKenzie.
Ellie Carter, who with David Fazzini directs the choir program at Notre Dame, says more than 100 singers from the school's upper division will be performing at the concert. She also points out that the program's participation in last week's Make It Matter Day included work for the benefit of a local homeless advocacy organization.
"The choir program took on the task of raising funds for a new organization called Better Way Detroit as part of Make-it-Matter Day by collecting empty pop cans that were turned into much-needed finds for the organization," she said. "In fact, Fr. Marko Djonovic, who is one of the founders of Better Way Detroit said he will be in attendance at our concert on Tuesday.
"It really will be a special night!"
